DR. EWA CZOCHROWSKA. DDS, PhD

Graduated as a dentist from the Dental Faculty in Warsaw, Poland. She finished a postgraduate training in orthodontics at the University in Oslo, Norway in 1997 then worked as a Research Fellow at the Orthodontic Department, Dental Faculty in Oslo until 2002. In 2003 she was awarded a PhD from the University in Oslo for a thesis on autotransplantation of teeth. For the publication from this work she received the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics Dewel Orthodontic Award in 2002. In 2014 she was awarded a habilitation in medical science from the Medical University in Warsaw on her work related to orthodontic treatment of patients with periodontitis.

Dr. Czochrowska was the President of the European Orthodontic Society and she host the EOS Congress in 2014 in Warsaw. She is the President of the Polish Orthodontic Society and the Active Member of the Angle Society of Europe and the European Board of Orthodontists. At present, she serves the position of the Secretary of the Angle Society of Europe. Dr. Czochrowska has organized 2 international congresses on tooth transplantation in 2016 (Sopot, Poland) and 2018 (Rotterdam, the Netherlands). Received Distinguish Teacher Award from the European Orthodontic Society for 2020. At present in the private practice in Warsaw and is working at the Department of Orthodontics, Medical University in Warsaw, Poland.

Dr. Czochrowska has authored and coauthored 10 book chapters and 50 scientific articles. She has lectured extensively worldwide on tooth transplantation and orthodontic treatment in patients with periodontal diseases.

ABSTRACT PRE-CONGRESS COURSE
AUTOTRANSPLANTATION OF DEPELOPING TEEHT; ORTHODONTIC AND SURGICAL PROTOCOL.

Autotransplantation of teeth with developing roots is an established treatment option for replacing missing teeth in growing individuals. Favorable orthodontic indications, good surgical access and optimal match between the donor tooth and the recipient site are prerequisites for a successful outcome. Due to their morphology and position in the dental arch, premolars with developing roots are often optimal donors with success reported over 90 per cent. The protocol for autotransplantation of developing premolars was established at the University in Oslo more than four decades ago and has been successfully applied in Poland since 2000. In addition to premolars, other types of developing teeth can also be successfully transplanted which will be discussed during the course.

The main objective of the course is to present:

• Orthodontic indications for the treatment with autotransplantation of tooth.
• Pre-surgical orthodontic preparation.
• Outline of the surgical technique in different indications
• Healing of donor tooth after the surgery, follow-up and results of the studies
• Orthodontic treatment after the surgery
• Trans-alveolar autotransplantation of impacted developing teeth
• Potential for bone preservation and regeneration in young patients.

 

ABSTRACT
AUTOTRANSPLANTATION OF TEETH: ORTHODONTIC PERSPECTIVE.

Autotransplanation of developing teeth is an attractive option to treat tooth agenesis, traumatically injured maxillary incisors and impacted teeth in growing patients. Transplanted teeth not only provide satisfactory long-term replacements of missing teeth but also can preserve and regenerate alveolar bone. Premolars with developing roots are the most commonly transplanted teeth because of their best healing potential, but also developing third molars and other immature teeth, like supernumeraries, can be successfully transplanted. However, orthodontic treatment planning must include evaluation of patient’s dental and skeletal relations, profile, space conditions and patients’ wishes regarding tooth transplantation and alternative treatments. Individualized approach is mandatory to obtain satisfactory results.

The most common protocols for application of tooth transplantation in orthodontic treatment will be discussed during lecture. The postsurgical monitoring related to normal healing, detection of possible complications and prosthodontic reshaping of premolars transplanted to anterior maxilla will be presented. The importance of a pre-surgical and post-surgical orthodontic treatment will be discussed including the role of an orthodontist in the multidisciplinary team.
